Couple therapy focuses on the "couple entity," that is, on the relationship between two spouses or partners, regardless of their orientation. We can work on, among other things:
improving the quality of communication, emotional expression, and empathy;
developing a deeper understanding of oneself and the other within the relationship;
addressing conflicts constructively and calmly;
discussing important issues for each partner in a safe and supportive environment;
and using all these elements to build and nurture the relationship, allowing you to move forward together.
Every couple is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. We work at your pace and closely attuned to your needs. Sometimes therapy is not the right fit, or you may already be considering separation. In this case, we can discuss your options together.

Couple therapy takes place in two phases: an assessment phase and an intervention phase.
The initial assessment lasts four sessions and unfolds as follows:
One couple session (75 minutes) where we discuss the reasons for your visit, the history of your relationship, the issues you are experiencing, and how conflicts arise within your relationship.
Two individual sessions (75 + 75 minutes) where we take the time, for each partner, to explore your feelings, reflections, and needs in the face of the situation. We may also discuss certain aspects of your life story.
One couple session (75 minutes) where we review the assessment. If therapy is indicated and desired, we can then highlight your resources and areas for improvement to help you achieve a more peaceful relationship.
The intervention phase may last a few sessions or be part of a longer-term approach. This depends on your needs and availability. During the intervention phase, sessions are always conducted as a couple and last 75 minutes. You may feel the need for longer sessions. You will have the option to extend your sessions by 30 minutes (1 hour 45 minutes in total). Sessions are held close together at the beginning of the intervention and can then be spaced further apart over time. We will review your progress regularly to adjust the format to your needs.
